Planning Rules Relaxed for Home Extensions

One of the effects of the credit crunch and slow housing market is that more people will be considering staying put and extending their existing houses.

Since 1st October 2008 this became easier in many cases .The change in the law means that individual house owners will be able to construct rear extensions without the need to apply for planning consent.

Other relaxations include:

  • new rules on permitted development for loft conversions
  • side extensions
  • out buildings

Rules and restrictions apply

It is still important therefore to obtain independent professional advice as to what exactly is allowed. As a contravention of the planning rules could have serious consequences.

It is hoped that the new rules will speed things up considerably.
